Methods: The subjects were 33 elderly with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia, they were divided into two group: the exercise group (n=16) and the control group (n=17). Exercise group participated in Tai Chi exercise program for 60 minutes a day, one a week for 8 weeks, whereas control group were asked to maintain previous lifestyle during the same period. Cognitive functions were measured by Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA).

There was no significant change between pre and post-test after program of exercise group in MMSE & MoCA. The results of post-test (MMSE & MoCA) after 8 weeks were not different between two groups.

Conclusion: Our results showed no significant effect of Tai Chi exercise program on cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment and early dementia. There were controversies about cognitive effect of Tai Chi exercise program. Further evaluation is needed.
